 Reflections on Liberation Day - 9/21/25

Old age is a bitch because it lets you remember the past not as painted by the media but as we experienced it. That’s not to say we were saints and all was great, but we remember the facts of the time as they were.

I grew up in Northern Italy in the 1950s. My family had a notable history in the Italian Resistance against the German occupation from 1943 to 1945.  From a very young age, I learned the difference between Independence Day and Liberation Day. The first celebrates a separation from an unacceptable political structure. The latter celebrates the expulsion of a foreign occupying force.

My Turning Point - 9/10/2025

 On 9/10/25 a giant fell. The thunder he created, I believe, will resonate for a long time for many. 

I followed Charlie Kirk for years, occasionally watching his on-campus debates with college students under the banner "Prove Me Wrong". I recognized him as a force for peaceful change, but alas, he did not change me enough. I remained stuck in the mental maze that typified my adult mode of political interaction.

I believe the vast majority of conservative thinkers in America checked in their mode of political interaction at the "Political Correctness Desk" beginning in the early 1980s. 

The term Political Correctness came into use in the 1970s by the left to define what their leaders defined as the correct way to think progressively about feminism, gay marriage, education, and political action.

It permits the elected president to control the composition of the executive workforce. This involves millions of people in hundreds of agencies who heretofore imagined themselves to be the true and permanent government of the US.

Many of Trump first-round picks share some common themes. One, many, who were in the past victimized by government bullies and cowardly bureaucratic grandees, or proved sharp critics of the administrative state, are now, in karma-style, in charge of the very agencies that hounded him.

I am garbage

I like to think I am not too old to learn a new strategy. So, I paid close attention and asked myself why would someone hope to convince a voter to possibly change sides by suggesting they are garbage? 

You can tell I AM GARBAGE and was not likely to become a turncoat, but still, why go on TV and call Gen Z's stupid, why call Hispanic and Black men mysoginist? 

The only reason I can fathom is an incredible level of arrogance, a belief so great of one's moral superiority, a claim to one's superior intelligence and education that divides "us the morally superior" from "them the garbage". 

That line of thinking started in 2015 with Hillary's claim that all "the college-educated" were on her side. Oops, not all were then, but from her loss, she and her ilk learned nothing. So Kamala served word salads to the same crowd with a few insults for spice. Even the college-educated found the salads lacking and went for garbage.

My biggest shock this morning is discovering that the system still works. I almost can't believe it. I was on the verge of thinking that the entirety of what we call democracy was fake. What happened last night was real, and achieved through the system itself. 

Is this how revolution occurs in Western industrial democracies? That's the theory and we might be seeing the reality now.

I was asked - Is this war, a path to war?

I think the news is credible but it is not war, yet. The US is pushing to bankrupt Russia and Putin may start a war as a way to stay in power, so our neocon crazies are playing with fire. Continuing to play with it as they have done with Ukraine. But, as we saw with Argentina and Chile in the 80's and 90's default does not create wars. It forces a government change via either a public vote, or revolution, or a military coup. Russia is more likely to have a  military coup than anything else, so no gain for the pain in the end - thank our neocon fools.

Did you notice last night, on whatever channel you watch the news, the emblem of Virginia? Sic Semper Tyrannis - "This way end all tyrants" (under the image is of young maiden standing on the throat of the tyrant). Well it could have not happened in a better place. The anti-woke revolt may have started.

As one of the anchors said "Let's go Brandon" - BTW if the expression means nothing to you, get hip and read the meaning and funny origin here. (ingenuity of American crowds and media).

Like all revolutions, it took time and a lucky accident (and blessings from above) to get the needed steam, but the optimist that I am, I can see the Cultural Revolution that I fear starting to fade away (maybe). A friend in France told me yesterday "America seems to be on the razor's edge, will it come back before it's lost?". Maybe.

His forecast of what was to come is simply amazing and frightening. 

Were it not for the short interlude of the Regan and Thatcher administrations the US and UK would be where the rest of Europe and much of the world are today, but judging from current economic policy proposals we seem to be on track to follow after all.

The case is made so simply and clearly that a child could get it. It would seem that naivete, wishful thinking and/or the propensity to appropriate someone else's wealth are too strong for most humans to resist.
